Leni Riefenstahl

Actor

Leni Riefenstahl was a German film director, actress, and photographer. She is best known for her controversial work as director of the Nazi propaganda films Triumph of the Will (1935) and Olympia (1938). Riefenstahl's innovative filmmaking techniques and aesthetic style had a significant influence on the film industry. Despite her talent, her association with the Nazi regime overshadowed her career. After World War II, she faced controversy and criticism, which led to her being blacklisted in the film industry. Riefenstahl continued her career as a photographer and published several photo books. Throughout her life, she remained a polarizing figure due to her association with the Nazi party. Leni Riefenstahl began her career in the 1920s as an actress in mountain films. In 1927, she played the lead role of Gita, a goat herder, in DER GROßE SPRUNG (The Great Leap), directed by Arnold Fanck. She had previously appeared in Der heilige Berg (The Holy Mountain, 1926, directed by Arnold Fanck). This was followed by films such as “Die weiße Hölle vom Piz Palü” (1929, directed by Arnold Fanck and G. W. Pabst) and “Stürme über dem Montblanc” (1930, directed by Arnold Fanck), which made her one of the most influential actresses in this genre.
