Jacob Matschenz

Jacob Matschenz (born in Berlin in 1984) is a German actor who has gained international recognition for his versatile roles in film and television. He made his breakthrough in 2005 with the leading role in Das Lächeln der Tiefseefische (The Smile of Deep-Sea Fish, 2005, directed by Till Endemann), for which he received the Max Ophüls Prize for Best Young Actor. For his performance in the television film An die Grenze (To the Border, 2007, directed by Urs Egger), he was awarded the Adolf Grimme Prize in 2008. Matschenz has appeared in numerous well-known films, including Wholetrain (2006, directed by Florian Gaag), Neandertal (2006, directed by Ingo Haeb and Jan-Christoph Glaser), Die Welle (2008, directed by Dennis Gansel), 12 Meter ohne Kopf (2009, directed by Sven Taddicken), and Mein Blind Date mit dem Leben (2017, directed by Marc Rothemund). In CHASING PAPER BIRDS (2020, directed by Mariana Jukica), he played Martin in a drama about three people whose paths cross on a summer night in Berlin. On television, he has appeared repeatedly in the series Tatort (since 2004, various directors) and starred in Babylon Berlin (2017–2020, directed by Henk Handloegten, among others) and the miniseries Charité (2019, directed by Sönke Wortmann). His awards underscore his versatility: Max Ophüls Prize (2005) and Adolf Grimme Prize (2008), supplemented by the Bavarian Film Award for Best Young Actor in 2010 for Bis aufs Blut – Brüder auf Bewährung (2010, directed by Oliver Kienle).
