An earthquake hits a small community. There are no casualties, but the inhabitants are forced to leave their homes. While the tremors continue to frighten the adults, Viola, a ten-year-old girl, experiences the earthquake as a strange carnival, a holiday where everything is turned upside down. In a kind of defiance of the imponderable, she lets herself be drawn into a game in which she imagines the earthquake as a “friend”, urging her to go out and be with others. This is how she discovers the adult world at an early age, the power of friendship and a hitherto unexplored nature.
