The Dreamer

Raphaël, a one-eyed man of imposing stature, lives with his mother Lucienne in a small house at the entrance to a large estate. As the caretaker of the abandoned manor house, he spends his days hunting moles, playing the bagpipes and occasionally going on a ride with Samia, the postwoman. His monotonous life changes abruptly when the heiress Garance returns to the family estate during a stormy night. This encounter brings about profound changes. The film, which premiered in the Orizzonti Extra section at the 80th Mostra in Venice, received attention for its extraordinary narrative style and the acting presence of Raphaël Thiéry and Emmanuelle Devos. It was also presented at the Busan International Film Festival in the renowned Flash Forward section. In this debut, director Anaïs Tellenne shows her flair for creating a tense atmosphere and developing complex characters. The story explores the dynamics of people and space, oscillating between solitude and sudden agitation. Raphaël's encounter with Garance marks a turning point and provides a glimpse into a world where silence and movement collide and the unspoken has the deepest impact.
