Neruda evades arrest and goes into hiding. In the midst of working on his epochal collection of poems, "Canto General," he attempts to leave the country with his wife. Soon the story of the poet on the run reaches Europe, and artists such as Pablo Picasso champion his cause. Meanwhile, the strange chase leads the adversaries to ever more remote regions.
