Jia Zhangke, born in 1970 in Fenyang, Shanxi Province, is a Chinese film director, screenwriter, and producer. He is considered one of the most important representatives of the sixth generation of Chinese cinema. His feature film "A Touch of Sin" (2013) was screened in competition at Cannes and won the award for best screenplay. For "Ash Is Purest White" (2018), he received a nomination for the Palme d'Or at Cannes. In 2020, he was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Thessaloniki International Film Festival.
