Anthony Perkins

Actor

Anthony Perkins was an American actor and singer, best known for his role as Norman Bates in Alfred Hitchcock's iconic film "Psycho" (1960). Born on April 4, 1932, in New York City, Perkins began his career on Broadway and made his film debut in "The Actress" (1953). His performance in "Friendly Persuasion" (1956) earned him a Golden Globe Award and an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor. Other significant films in his career include "Fear Strikes Out" (1957), "The Matchmaker" (1958), and "On the Beach" (1959). Perkins reprised his famous role in several sequels to "Psycho," including "Psycho II" (1983), "Psycho III" (1986), which he also directed, and "Psycho IV: The Beginning" (1990). He was known for his distinctive intensity and versatility, often playing complex characters. Perkins passed away on September 12, 1992, but remains a lasting figure in cinematic history. In CRIMES OF PASSION 1984, directed by Ken Russell, Perkins plays Reverend Peter Shayne, a seemingly pious clergyman who leads a twisted double life as a dominatrix and seducer. His performance has been described as provocative, haunting, and disturbing—it sets the intense tone of the thriller and is considered one of his most memorable works outside the mystery genre.
