Annie Potts, born on October 28, 1952, in Nashville, Tennessee, is an American actress who has earned a place in film history with iconic roles in film and television. She made her breakthrough with the cult classic Ghostbusters (1984), in which she played Janine Melnitz. She then became a television star as Mary Jo Shively in the popular series Designing Women (1986–1993). In the erotic thriller China Blue by Day and Night (Crimes of Passion) (1984), directed by Ken Russell, Annie Potts plays the role of Amy Grady. The film tells the story of a woman who is an elegant fashion designer by day and offers erotic role-playing games under the alias “China Blue” by night. The complex character of Amy Grady becomes increasingly entangled in dangerous secrets and murderous intentions as the thriller plot unfolds. Potts received early recognition: she was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Best New Actress for her leading role in “Corvette Summer” (1978). Other well-known films include “Pretty in Pink” (1986), “Who's Harry Crumb?” (1989) and “Elvis Has Left the Building” (2004). As a voice actress, she lent her voice to the character Bo Peep in the Toy Story films, including Toy Story 4 (2019).
